Great box with glowing light!

I'm really impressed with the thought that went into making this power box. The light is super convenient for checking things out, and the wiring is just the right thickness. The parts used are all top-notch. It's got its own circuit breaker and an easy-off switch. Inside, there's a built-in ground block, lots of spots to plug in stuff, and it even comes with wire connectors and an extra plug. The instructions are clear and thorough. It's a fantastic product!

Consider everything before purchasing

Setting up a generator at home can be tricky, but this product keeps things straightforward. It's pretty basic: the simplest way to put it would be to just throw an extension cord out the window, but that's not very neat. If you only need to power one 120V circuit during an outage, like your fridge, this device does the job in a simple and cost-effective way. It might even be something you could install yourself if you're handy with electrical stuff, unlike more complex setups.
This device is a single-circuit transfer switch, meaning it can handle one circuit up to 15 amps. You pick which circuit to power when you set it up, and you can't switch to a different one without re-wiring. If you need more than one circuit, you could use two or three of these, but that could get messy with multiple cords or switches.
For more control, some people use a transfer switch that can handle multiple circuits and higher power, like the ones from Reliance Controls or Connecticut Electric. These can power several devices at once, making it easier to run a fridge, lights, and an air conditioner. But if your generator is smaller or you're using a solar or battery system, this simple switch might be enough.
It's all about what you need and what you're willing to spend. If you're considering this, think about what devices you'd want to run during an outage. Some people might need an oven, air conditioning, heating, or a well pump. There are also options like interlocks that let you choose any circuit at runtime, or automatic transfer switches that start the generator for you.
This Kohree product is a more affordable version of the EZ Generator Switch. It's designed to be used outdoors, which the EZ Switch isn't without an extra cover. If you're using a battery inverter system, that might not matter. Just be cautious about where you place your generator to avoid carbon monoxide risks.
This switch is a good, cheap solution if you don't need a lot of power. My only complaint is the size of the knockouts for wiring - they're a bit big. The EZ Switch has more standard sizes, which might make installation a bit easier. This one also has a power indicator light, which is a nice touch.
What you should keep in mind, you need an extension cord rated for at least 15 amps, and whatever you're powering can't exceed that limit or the breaker will trip. The internal wiring is 12 AWG, so you could technically use this on a 20 amp circuit if you're okay with the 15 amp limit. If you have a generator with a floating neutral, you might need to modify this switch like you would with the EZ Switch.
Also, keep in mind that not all generators provide the same quality of power. Inverter-based ones are quieter, more efficient, and better for sensitive devices, but they're more expensive and don't provide as much power. Make sure you choose the right one for your needs.

Exactly what I needed

I've checked out this device, and I'm really happy with how well-made the casing and electrical parts are. It's perfect for my garage setup, especially when I need to use the portable generator during power outages.

Perfect Solution

I live where it gets really cold in winter, and we sometimes lose power. I don't have a big generator for the whole house, just a smaller one. But this box is just what I needed to run my furnace during outages without causing any trouble with the power grid. It's safe and easy to set up, even the electrician who came to install it said it was so easy. He's getting one for his own place too! It's a great buy for some peace of mind.

Just What We Needed!

We really needed this. It's way better than the mess of cords and not being able to close the door or window when we had to hook up the generator before. Now, if the power goes out, our fridge and freezer are safe. My husband installed it himself without any issue. We had one at our old place, and this house definitely needed it too. He connected it to the house, and now it's as simple as flipping a switch and turning on the generator to get it going.

Better Quality than Expected

This thing is well-built, with strong wiring and a nice bright light that shows when the generator is on. I would buy it again without a second thought.

Need some experience on it

This is a very high quality product with sturdy parts, but it's not something you should try to set up if you're new to this kind of thing. It's best to get a certified expert to handle the installation. Fortunately, the price is really fair, and the parts are of really high quality.

Great value, love the light on the generator.

It's hard to find a 15-amp transfer switch that's cheaper than this one. This model is really good, especially with its green LED light that shows when your generator is working. None of the other switches I checked had this feature. It's well built and offers some waterproofing, though not the best. I tested it in a storm and some water got in, but just a few drops at the bottom of the casing, which didn't cause any issues.
If you need better waterproofing, you might want to seal the edges with silicone caulk or waterproof tape. Remember, this is a 15-amp switch, so if you're using something close to that power, you could trip the circuit breaker. I did that by using a DEWALT DWD460 drill, which normally draws 11 amps but can pull more under heavy load.

I found another awesome way to use this

I installed one of these on my central gas heating system. My furnace is up in the attic, and it runs on 120v for the blower and electronics. I added a new power cable from the furnace and connected it to this box on the wall close to my breaker box. Now, I can run my GAS furnace even when the power goes out. Just remember, this won't work for an electric furnace.

Functions well with Ford Pro Power.

I bought these to power my furnace and hot water heater using Ford pro power. I needed a device that wouldn't trip the truck's breaker by breaking the neutral from the panel, and these did the job nicely. I just wish the cables were a bit longer; it was a bit tricky to find the right spot to connect in my panel.

Nice features compared with other similar devices

I'm pleased with this purchase, but there are a couple of things to watch out for. The main one is that the knockouts are ready for 3/4" conduit fittings, which is great for outdoor or wet areas, but the covers are metric-sized. The plastic spin-nuts that come with it won't work, so you'll need the right locking nuts for your conduit. If you have any 1/2" conduits you want to use, you'll need to get the adapters to switch to 3/4", or you might end up making an extra trip to the hardware store.
This unit separates both hot and neutral wires, which is how it should be for these types of devices. This means the neutral on the generator side isn't connected to the main panel's neutral. If you're not sure what this means or how it works with your backup power, find someone who knows; it's pretty important.
I really like the power indicator and the gasketed cover on the backup inlet - this is a big step up from other similar devices. Knowing the backup power is live before you switch over is super handy and keeps your equipment safe. The metal box is sturdy, and the cover fits securely on top.
For example, this lets you run a freezer or a gas furnace when the power's out using a small generator. No heat in winter could force you out of your home or cause serious damage like frozen pipes, so this is a nice, safe, and cost-effective solution. Just make sure it's installed correctly on the load side of the switch to avoid any backfeed issues.
I think it's great for what it's meant to do, especially considering the price compared to other options. Just remember that the plug is a 15A inlet, and the breaker in the box is also 15A, so it will trip if you try to use more power than that, which is how it should be.
