Upgraded Electric Proportional Trailer Brake Controller with LED Display

Purchasing a new 2024 Ram HD Tradesman provided nearly everything desired for towing with one notable exception - the integrated brake controller. Considering installation of an OE integrated unit seemed less appealing due to the prospect of removing dash panels on a brand new vehicle. That reality considered, mounting one of those notoriously unreliable box controllers under the dash also failed to inspire confidence. Discovering this alternative appeared to present the optimal solution. Installation process proved remarkably straightforward. The pickup included an adapter harness specifically designed for aftermarket brake controller integration eliminating nearly all guesswork. Those familiar with the complexities of wiring traditional clunky box controllers will find this unit remarkably simple to install. The control module resides completely concealed behind the dash leaving only the interface visible. The control pad installed precisely in the location intended for the OE brake controller creating a seamless appearance. Most importantly the unit functions exceptionally well. Unlike the previous box-type controller which essentially functioned as an unreliable on/off switch regardless of adjustment attempts this unit delivers true proportional braking. While certain reviewers expressed dissatisfaction with the instructions the process proved so intuitive that reference to the manual remained minimal.

Initial confusion occurred because only the logo appeared without advancing to the main screen. This behavior proves typical in situations where no trailer remains connected. Trailer connection initiates proper screen activation. The investment proves worthwhile considering overall performance.

Braking response performs exceptionally well, with adjustability across the full range of brake application strength, complemented by an "instant on" button that proves invaluable for testing trailer brake functionality independently and verifying proper system operation. The absence of a head unit power-off option remains somewhat bothersome, as the constant display illumination can prove distracting, particularly during nighttime driving, and the installation kit could benefit from additional zip ties and heat-shrink wire splices, though creative positioning at the windshield's top with the USB cable routed from the headliner allows easy cable management by detaching the USB from the unit's side and concealing it behind the display. Following several months of use, concerns about the 3M tape's durability in Florida's intense sun and heat have proven unfounded, as everything remains securely mounted and functions flawlessly, suggesting this controller should deliver long-term reliability. The investment proves entirely justified, as although not the most economical option available, the build quality feels notably premium.

Got this installed in my RV, and it's been working perfectly so far. But honestly, the instructions could use some work. They recommend 8 AWG wire, which is way too light for the job. I upgraded to 2 AWG, and now the cables don't get hot even under full load. We'll see how it holds up over time.

I have checked and double checked. Everything is wired correctly but it will not detect my trailer connection. I connected to a different trailer and not luck. What do I need to do. Out of brakes in Hawaii.

I use it to power the interior lights of my trailer.I have two 1-watt LED bulbs that remain in standby mode even when not connected to the vehicle.

Used on a multi-axle trailer,I can also adjust the rear brake pressure,connect it to the brake pedal switch or brake light wire,and mount the box where I want it.It's incredibly convenient.

Installation is very simple.The hardest part is connecting to the brake light and running a wire from the back.It seems to work well during testing.This is the best controller I've used.I look forward to hooking up the trailer and experiencing all its features.

This is probably the most advanced one I've seen,with a beautiful little display and an extremely simple user interface.The installation process requires some skill,like connecting to the brake pedal switch or brake light wire,and mounting the box where you want it.It also features a traditional manual brake button.Overall,it's worth every penny.
